How Do You Get To Carnegie Hall?

How Do You Get To Carnegie Hall?

Paterson Music Project students from Norman S. Weir School accompanied by Mr. Bernie Visto, music teacher, attended a concert at Carnegie Hall featuring the Sphinx Virtuosi. This critically acclaimed all Black and Latino Sphinx Virtuosi is comprised of alumni of the Sphinx Competition. The performance included repertoires of a solo violin piece Paganiniana by Nathan Milstein, the Beethoven Grosse Fuge, Vivaldi’s Concerto in B-flat Major for violin, cello and continuo, as well as the New York City premier of works by a Latino and an African-American composer, Jimmy Lopez and Michael Abels, respectively. The Norman S. Weir students sat front row and absorbed the beautiful acoustics of Carnegie Hall.  How do you get to Carnegie Hall?  Practice, practice, practice!

Read for the Record

Read for the Record
Norman S. Weir School joined "Read for the Record" and became a part of the world’s largest shared reading experience! This annual campaign was launched over a decade ago to highlight the importance of building early literacy and language skills for EVERY child. Mr. Cosimo Torello, Librarian, read Quakers by Liz Wong to students in Grades K-3 ensuring that all children have the opportunity to be prepared to succeed in school. This tale is about understanding, acceptance, and learning that it’s ok to be whoever you want to be.

Aloha!  Norman S. Weir School conducted a Skype visit today from Hawaii with Disney's award winning author Bruce Hale to discuss his new book Mutant Mantis Lunch Ladies!   The students and their teachers cheered when Mr. Hale "appeared" on the screen.

Mr. Hale talked about the process he went through to research, write, and publish the book and encouraged students to reach for their dreams. The whole group enjoyed waving at and thanking Mr. Hale for "visiting."  The book was a fun read and the students were thoroughly mesmerized by the author!
